Vatsala’s ‘pop’ fling!, Mid-day, By Chaitanya Padukone, July 23, 1987

Glamorous ghazal-star Vatsala Mehra (Washington-based) is currently in Bombay, to record and release her seventh ghazal album. Recently, she had a spree of ‘live’ sell-out concerts in Toronto, Ottawa and New York, where none other than Dilip Kumar was the chief guest who compered the shows.

As it is, vibrant Vatsala has several ‘fan-clubs’ in the States and now thespian Dilip Kumar seems to be her latest ‘star-fan’ as he is mahakhush over her peshkash and versatile ‘bass’ gayaki. Presently, Vatsala is being hounded by rival record companies to bring out her ghazal album, a video album, a Geeta Dutt ‘cover version’ and even a ‘Hindi-pop’ music cassette – which is the latest craze. Smiles Vatsala, “ghazals are my first love, but it could be exciting to have a ‘fling’ with Hindi pop”.
